About

Meet Patrick Mondragon, Author

Patrick Mondragin is a Christian, husband, father, and passionate leader, driven by his life purpose: “Driven by faith, I strive to use my God-given spiritual gifts to lead, motivate, and inspire others.” This is his passion and is what he strives to build his entire life around.

A native of San Jose, CA, Patrick proudly calls Oakdale, CA “Cowboy Capital of the World” his home. He is proudly married to Rosie Mondragon and the two of them share five amazing children.

Since he was a child, Patrick always loved writing and found that the creative thinking unlocked so many majestic places. When he was in elementary school, several of his writings won Young Author’s Fair Awards. This, however, is Patrick’s first published book, and he is very excited to release it. Although it contains many life lessons, this book was primarily inspired through what Patrick considers the darkest moment of his life – going through an horrific divorce. Although there were times that this almost broke him, it was his faith that kept him going, and was the main inspiration – and title – of this book. Phoenix Rising serves as an example to all. Just as a Phoenix rises up from the ashes, so too can any one reading this who may find themselves going through a hard time in their life. There is no problem too large that God cannot change, solve, or use for the uplifting of self, and others around them.

Education wise, Patrick holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership, a Masters in Public Administration and a Masters in Human Resource Management, as well as the Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential.

Patrick spent 20 years in the United States Navy, where he served on two Navy warships (deploying on both), completed two deployments with the Navy Seabees, and completed an operational assignment with 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing in Miramar, CA. He retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8) and started a second career working in local government, where he currently serves and oversees all aspects of Human Resources.

His hobbies include working out and staying physically fit, painting rocks, cooking, gardening, and traveling whenever and wherever he can. One of his life motto’s is “It’s better to live a life of oh-well’s than a life of what if’s”, meaning that it’s better to try something and fail, rather than not try at all and live with that regret.

A meticulously arranged, photorealistic author workspace centered on a single open notebook, its blank ivory pages illuminated by a focused pool of warm desk-lamp light. On the cover of the nearby closed notebook, a subtle, embossed phoenix symbol glows faintly in copper and deep red, suggesting the Phoenix Rising theme. Around it lie neatly stacked printed pages, a vintage-style ink bottle, and an e-reader displaying a book cover featuring a rising sun motif. The background fades into soft shadowed bookshelves. Shot from a top-down, slightly angled perspective with crisp focus at the center and gentle vignetting, the atmosphere is thoughtful, disciplined, and creative, evoking a serious professional author at work without depicting any people.
A single, photorealistic hardcover book floating slightly above a reflective black surface in a dark studio, the cover artwork dominated by a luminous phoenix emerging from swirling ash and smoke. Tendrils of glowing ember-red and gold energy spiral outward from the bird, fading into deep indigo and black at the edges. A subtle halo of cool backlight outlines the book’s silhouette, while a focused spotlight from above creates dramatic highlights and shadows. The reflection below is slightly blurred, hinting at duality and transformation. Captured straight-on with centered composition and ample negative space, the mood is intense, mysterious, and powerful—ideal for a primary book feature on a professional author site.

Praise

Powerful

Phoenix Rising pulled me in from the first page—lyrical, tense, and deeply human. A moving portrait of resilience that lingered with me long after finishing.

— Aya Nakamura

Unforgettable journey

Mondragon crafts a world of ash and hope, where every choice matters. I couldn’t stop turning pages or thinking about his characters.

— Mateo García

Stunning debut

Phoenix Rising is equal parts intimate character study and cinematic adventure. It’s the rare novel that feels both mythic and painfully real.

A serene, photorealistic early-morning landscape where a single book lies closed on a rough stone near the edge of a calm lake. The book’s cover features an understated, burnished-gold phoenix icon and a faint sunrise gradient from deep plum to soft amber. Mist drifts over the water, catching the pale pink and gold light of dawn as the sun just breaks the horizon. Dew-speckled grasses frame the foreground in soft focus, while the book itself is razor sharp. Shot from a low, close perspective along the stone surface, the composition uses the rule of thirds to place the book against the glowing horizon, creating a contemplative, hopeful mood of renewal and quiet strength.
